I saw something fascinating last month and I kept meaning to talk about it, like many things in my life it escaped me. However, I rediscovered it yesterday and here we are. Amplify Hearing, a provider of hearing care and hearing aids in the UK, have introduced a hearing screener app for Alexa. It's a fascinating app, and a smart move for Amplify.
Hearing Screener is a free app that can be accessed via Amazon’s Alexa App Store and offers a free hearing health check. The user asks Alexa to “launch hearing screener” to start the app and they are then asked a series of questions with varying levels of background noises and pitch tones to assess their hearing. Once the test is complete, the application will give an indication of the user’s hearing and may give them the option to book an appointment with their local audiologist if they are in the UK. Booking an appointment through the app requires minimal time and effort from the user.
This is quite an intelligent and fascinating move by Amplify, there has been a huge growth in intelligent speakers like Alexa and Google Home. Interestingly, a lot of older adults have adopted the systems, so providing this app on Alexa makes a huge amount of sense. You can download the Hearing Screener app here.
